China’s largest tyre maker joins ITMA

July 31st, 2012

Just weeks after the introduction of the new tyre labelling regulations across Europe, Hangzhong Zhongce Rubber Company, China’s largest tyre maker, has become the latest manufacturer to call on the support, expertise and resources of the Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA).

By joining ITMA, Hangzhong Zhongce will have access to the very latest technical and legislative regulations affecting the sale of tyres within Europe.

“We are delighted to welcome Hangzhong Zhongce to ITMA,” comments Alfred Graham, president, ITMA. “In recent months, as the legislative burden for tyre makers and importers continues to increase, we’ve seen a number of additional manufacturers call upon our support. To have another, and in particularly one so large, is a great reflection on the level of advice and insight provided by membership of ITMA.”

Hangzhong Zhongce was founded in 1958 and produces tyres for a wide range of applications including passenger car, truck, motorcycle, industrial and agricultural.

According to figures recently published by Tyres & Accessories magazine, 11 out of the world’s 20 largest tyre manufacturers are now members of ITMA.

ITMA remains the only trade association in Europe to exclusively represent the interests of non-EU based tyre manufacturers. It was established more than 30 years ago when imported tyre brands started to gain a significant share of UK and mainland European replacement market. The Association now represents more than 30 tyre brands from its member companies.

“Europe remains an attractive market for non-EU based tyre manufacturers,” adds Graham. “However, with the introduction of legislation and regulations such as the new labeling laws, it is essential that these are fully understood in a timely manner so that tyre designs, production schedules and relevant marketing materials can be adapted accordingly. By working closely with ITMA and its other members, manufacturers can be assured that they stand the best possible chance of achieving this in the most cost effective way possible.”

As well as providing its members with regular bulletins and updates, ITMA also has a technical working group, which advises and assists all members on a wide range of technical issues. Members also meet regularly to discuss points of common interest. The Association is also a founder member of the UK’s Tyre Industry Federation.
