ITMA latest news
ITMA’s first GRRF meeting
In recognition of its growing stature and representation within the global tyre industry, ITMA recently attended its first ever meeting as an official ‘observer’ to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) Working Party on Brakes and Running Gear (GRRF).
The GRRF is an important subcommittee of the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP 29) that works for globally harmonized regulations on vehicles. GRRF prepares regulatory proposals on active safety, specifically on braking and running gear.
At the latest meeting, two members from ITMA’s European technical committee saw European Commission legal and technical experts participate in a wide range of detailed discussions. Indeed, all future vehicle and tyre specific regulations are first agreed by the UNECE, to be used later as legal references for EU legislation.
ITMA’s attendance at these meetings is of particular note as Europe’s regulators will benefit from this wider interface with all of Europe’s many tyre brands.
Members of ITMA were recently provided with an overview of the meeting’s discussion at the association’s latest technical meeting. Further updates will also be provided after subsequent GRRF meetings which are held twice a year, helping to ensure that the association’s members receive the very latest legislative updates.
