History

ITMA was established in the late 1970s when imported tyres first started to make a significant impact on the UK tyre market. Since then their popularity with motorists and retailers alike has increased significantly and imported tyres are estimated to now account for as much as 50% of all UK tyre sales and at least 30% across the whole of Europe.

Since its inception, ITMA has seen a vast growth in the number of rules and regulations affecting the tyre industry. However, with its long-standing and established relationships, it has helped its members overcome many complex challenges and it is not sitting still. For example, it formed its own European technical group back in 2009 and in 2011 will create a significant technical link with the Scandinavian Tire and Rim Organisation.
