ITMA latest news
Tyre labelling
To provide consumers with a more informed choice when selecting their replacement tyres, new tyre labelling regulations come into force later this year. The new labels will rate the tyre’s fuel efficiency, wet braking performance and exterior noise emissions.
The introduction of the new rules is likely to be one of the most significant changes to the tyre industry in recent history. Consequently, the rules governing the testing and categorisation of tyres for labelling purposes are complex and extremely detailed.
However, it is important that all manufacturers adhere to these regulations properly and their products comply with the legislative requirements.
ITMA has been advising its members on various aspects of tyre labelling for a considerable time now. It continues to monitor any further changes and developments and only recently attended a meeting with the Department for Transport to clarify several outstanding issues.
Activities such as these will help all its members in their attempt to be completely ready in time for the introduction of the legislation later this year.
Any importers still requiring assistance with tyre labelling compliance are encouraged to contact ITMA for support, advice and guidance.
