Legislative compliance

October 13th, 2011

In order to comply with REACH legislation that was introduced at the beginning of last year, many tyre manufacturers and importers had to make a number of changes to their production and administration processes. Recent investigations by enforcement agencies across Europe have demonstrated the importance of full compliance on such issues.

Many of those brands investigated by the authorities encountered a lengthy and time-consuming distraction to their business as they were required to demonstrate evidence of compliance with the new legislation.

In preparation for such new legislative challenges, ITMA offers advice and guidance to its members for many months in advance of the introduction of new laws so they can meet the new requirements and remain fully compliant for sale.

Such advice and guidance has proved to be one of the key benefits of membership for many ITMA members. As a standalone importer, brands have often found that they do not have timely access to the latest technical regulations, leaving them exposed to authorities for non-compliance issues which have a devastating effect on their business.  However, with the support and guidance of ITMA many manufacturers have found it much easier to tackle and comply with new legislation.

Any tyre importers looking for such support and backing should contact ITMA on 0845 3700145 to discuss membership.
